We have a few announcements for you this weekend, as you tackle Week 5's materials, on Violence Against Women in the Home & Community. 1. Your Field Assignment Be sure to work on your "Engage Your Community" assignment this week! In your town or region, locate an organization that is working on an issue highlighted in this class. Interview the people at this organization: What is the name of the group? What is its mission or goal? How does it carry out its work? What is your sense of its effectiveness? Share your findings here on our class forum. We already have a wonderful set of responses from students across the globe—see the map below! Read the instructions (PDF) for this field assignment. We also invite you to include a photo of your organization as part of your post! 2. Chat with Other Learners Live Sign up for a weekly Talkabout Session and chat about this week or last week's content live! You can choose to talk about Week 5 or Week 4's materials (we have added extra sessions this week to make up for last week.) Discussion guides are all available on the Discussion Toolkit section of the Interact Portal, which you can download before your talk. 3. Take part in interactive sessions with the International Women's Health and Human Rights this weekend! 1. Watch Anne's First Tea Time Anne celebrates Syrian women and welcomes you to this session of the course! (We are sorry for the delay in this tea time session. Anne's computer was out of commission, but she is now back online!) Watch the video and ask a question for a future session in the Tea Time section of the course website. 2. Chat with Other Learners Live Sign up for a weekly Talkabout Session and chat about this week's content live! We have four sessions available this weekend (February 13 & 14). Visit the Interact page of our website to learn more about these opportunities to connect with a global community of learners, practitioners and activists! This map shows places where group meetings have been taking place all around the world. Discussion guides are now all available on the Discussion Toolkit section of the Interact Portal. This week's themes touch on Female Genital Mutilation/Gutting, HIV/AIDS, and "structural violence" against women. 3. This Week: Female Genital Mutilation, HIV/AIDS, Structural Violence Access the Course View the video lectures and textbook at https://lagunita.stanford.edu/courses/GlobalHealth/Int.Womens.Health/Jan2016/info where content will be released according to the syllabus. This week, we cover three topics, so there's more material than usual: Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting, HIV/AIDS, and Structural Violence. Respond to Classmates Visit our SetSail forum (www.setsail.io) to share your thoughts and comment on others' posts. If you have any issues registering, make sure your registration isn't accidentally caught in the e-mail spam folder. Some hotmail.com users have encountered trouble, but most other users seem to be okay. Please e-mail [email protected] for any assistance. 4. Clarifications & Logistics We noticed that some folks were not able to access parts of the forum last week, related to Education. We have made sure these sections are now all accessible. Do not worry if you were previously unable to post; please add your comments now. As long as you complete your work before the end of this course, we will count it for a Stanford Statement of Accomplishment. However, we strongly recommend you keep up each week, because there's a lot of interesting new material to cover and a variety of assignments to help you check your learning and engage with your community. Please stay in touch with us and share your thoughts on setsail.io as the course progresses.
